Fostering Healthier, Safer Environments
“A ruined planet cannot sustain human lives in good health. A healthy planet and healthy people are two sides of the same coin.”
– Dr. Margaret Chan, Executive Director of the World Health Organization
PFAS Chemical Water Contamination
The film “Dark Waters” recently shed light on PFAS, a class of “forever chemicals” found in many common household products. PFAS are now found in the blood of the vast majority of Americans. More resources, including continuing medical education, to better understand the impact of PFAS contamination on human health will be available here soon. Information on the chemicals, including on Gen X, which was found to contaminate the water supply in Southeastern NC, is available from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), including clinician guidance.
Understanding the Intersections of Climate and Health
In Southeastern North Carolina, we have been on the frontlines of the impacts of climate change on human health as we have dealt with deadly superstorms. On Your Side Health will bring more recognition to how our changing climate impacts human health—from food deserts, to vector-borne diseases, to heat-related illnesses, and superstorms. Stay tuned for more information, including on an exciting partnership with the Young Scientist Academy and their Mission Sol which has been studying greenhouse gases via a weather balloon launched into near space.
